OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - New police dash cam video is emerging from the Jan. 4 shootout at 3268 Jackson Ave. Six officers were shot before gunfire brought down the suspect.
Riverdale Police parked about a block and a half away from the suspect’s home where the shootings took place. Dash cam video reveals police dragging a wounded officer to emergency help.
Some of the officers admit they’ve seen the video. “It always gets your heart beating a little bit. It reminds you how dangerous the job can be. It reminds you what a close family law enforcement is,” said Lt. James Ebert of the Riverdale Police Department.
Moments later officers are seen dragging the suspect, Matthew David Stewart into view. The officers set him down. The video reveals his hands cuffed behind his back. He shows little resistance likely because he’s injured. Finally police pull his body out of view to get him to emergency help.
Newly released dash cam video from South Ogden Police reveals officers speeding to Stewart’s home moments after officer’s yell, “shots fired!!!” and “officers down!!!” over the radio.
The South Ogden police car pulls up near Stewart’s home. The video captures officers searching the ground with flashlights. There is no serious commotion visible in the video.
Video released by the Ogden Police Department reveals officers running to Stewart’s home with large guns. It also shows an injured officer placed in the back of a squad car for emergency transportation to a hospital.
Police say watching the dash cam video is a motivation to think about what’s most important in life.
“There’s a reminder that there’s a very large family component in our lives and it does remind you to focus on your family and focus on the important things in your life,” Ebert said.
Officer Jared Francom died from his injuries. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.
