SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A Utah judge ruled that Curtis Allgier will get new defense attorneys.

Curtis Allgier is accused of shooting and killing prison guard Stephen Anderson in June of 2007 during an escape attempt at the University of Utah Medical Center.

Allgier's attorneys filed a motion to be taken off the case last month.

District Court Judge Paul Maughan initially denied the motion, but after an appeal to the Utah State Supreme Court, he reconsidered the ruling on Tuesday.

Maughan ruled that Allgier will get new representation, citing that his current defense team, "...has not moved this case in a meaningful fashion."

Allgier's case was scheduled to begin in April.
