DRAPER, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Jaime Riser hopes her In-N-Out Burger application – filled with food service experience – will help her land a position at In-N-Out Burger's soon to be open Draper location. She also hopes it will be the beginning of a new career. "I think they are a really good company - a lot to offer their employees. I want something with benefits and a future." I watched Riser go through the application process, which included a short interview. Afterward I asked her what she thought. She said, it went well and that is wasn’t as “nerve raking as it could have been." But Riser won’t really know how it went until she hears back from In-N-Out management. Only then will she know if she will be one of the seventy or so people who will get hired.
And she isn't the only one hoping to land a job. Hundreds of people have applied for jobs at the world famous hamburger stand. We caught up with some - like Martha Quinonez-Alread and Michael Keith - right after their interviews. Martha said she tried to charm them with her smile and friendly attitude. Oh, and her amazing smile and contagious laugh. Michael said he went personal with his interview. He told me that he shared personal experiences and talked a lot about customer service. They all came with their own other reasons, but everyone applying agreed the big reason for applying is the fact that In-N-Out pays a minimum of $10 per hour. Annette Bingham told me, "I only make $7.25 per hour and I want to go back to school, so the $10 per hour is definitely a better thing."
Regional Manager Ray Maldonado says the $10 per hour pay helps him be very selective about who he hires. And he says so far, a lot of people in Utah would make that list. He says he is impressed with the applicants and so are his store managers. He says, “they are extremely happy with candidates so far." And he's impressed with the customer interest - in fact, several In-N-Out Burgers restaurants are now planned from Orem to Ogden. The first two – located in Orem and Draper – should open before Thanksgiving. Maldonado says the next two should open before the end of the year. And he says that three more restaurants should open sometime next year.
