OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - If you live up in Ogden and hears the beat of drums Wednesday don't be alarmed, Good Morning Utah is learning how to play the African drums.

Each week instructor Deja Mitchell teaches African Dance and Drum classes in Ogden. Students learn to play the “Djembe,” a traditional African drum played in significant ceremonies in tribes and villages in Africa. ABC 4 is told at one time the drum was used like a telephone between villages.

Mitchell and her students often support Africa Heartwood Project's humanitarian work when they drum. In March and April they are doing community drum circle fundraisers to provide clean water to a village in Ghana.

If you'd like to learn to play, Mitchell teaches African Dance & Drum classes every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Eccles Community Arts Center located at 2580 Jefferson Ave. in Ogden.
