HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Officials from the Hill Air Force Base in northern Utah announced the death of an airman stationed in Afghanistan on Friday.
HAFB officials confirmed that Tech. Sgt. Kristoffer M. Solesbee from Citrus Heights, Calif., died on May 26 due to severe injuries from an enemy attack.
According to officials, the injuries resulted from an explosion of an improvised device from the enemy during their attack of Sgt. Solesbee's unit.
“It’s with tremendous regret we announce the loss of one of our own today,” said Col. Patrick Higby, 75th Air Base Wing commander.
Sgt. Solesbee was deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, serving in the Shorabak district of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, where officials say he was assigned to the 775th Civil Engineer Squadron, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Flight.
“During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Solesbee’s family and friends, as well as the entire explosive ordnance disposal community,” said Col. Higby. “His sacrifice and service are not forgotten and he will be greatly missed.”
