SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team hosted `An Evening with Ozzie Smith' at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel on Tuesday night.
Ozzie's message to head coach Bill Kinneberg's players was simple...
"Just working hard and getting the most out of every day," said smith. "Don't take anything for granted and believe in yourself because if you don't other people have a tendency not to believe in you...so it's about believing in yourself and playing each day like it's the last day you get to play this great game."
Smith was a 13-time Gold Glove Award winner who set major league shortstop records for assists, double plays and chances in 19 seasons with the Padres and Cardinals. A 15-time All-Star, he finished his career with over 2,400 hits and 500 stolen bases. Smith led the Cardinals to three World Series, including a 1982 championship.
Smith was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002.
