SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) - Lightning struck twice this week for Mishawn Johnson and his wife. A burglar hit them yesterday, a robber tried to break in on Tuesday and if it weren't for 3 good samaritans they guy might still be on the run.
Police say Johnson set up an elaborate "apparatus" on his front door last night just in case the guy who took cash and a diamond ring yesterday came back today for more. This morning someone did come back. Johnson was in the bathroom, his wife was sleeping and he heard a noise. When he came to the door it was open and a man was running across his lawn.
In his bare feet, Johnson gave chase. When he got to the corner, he told police, a van pulled over and the 3 guys inside asked if he needed help. He yelled, "yes" and all 3 piled out and the chase was on. Salt Lake Police Sergeant Michael Hill says "They chased him about a block and a half down here to Warnock Avenue where he was taken into custody. The three men held him down. We found them in the backyard."
The suspect is Steven Frank Young. He has superficial cuts and bruises from the chase and the wrestling match to get him down. The police say they don't reccomend citizens getting involved in police work, but his time it did help catch the man the homeowner says he saw breaking in.
Police say they will now try to tie Young to the burglary yesterday.
The 3 good samaritans went right back to work. They work in the maintenance department for Gastromomy Restaurant group. ABC4's Ross Becker spoke to one of them on the phone this morning. He only said it had been an interesting day so far.
