SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – If you’re looking for a little change for your work out schedule – AntiGravity yoga may offer you the mixture of physical agility and beauty. You are a few feet above the ground in a hammock, practicing yoga poses.
AntiGravity Yoga uses a technique created by gymnasts for the sake of exploring the air and has been modified and enhanced to fit into the yoga mold and to cater to the everyday athlete. Through out the past few years – the have added techniques from dance, pilates and calisthenics to the practice.
The people behind AntiGravity say each session will decompress tight joints, you will be able to hold challenging yoga postures longer and in correct alignment, stretch further with less strain and add an entirely new dimension to your practice.
The key to AntiGravity Yoga is the hammock. A special soft trapeze has been created just for the AntiGravity practice. It hangs from two overhead points and holds you during the entire practice.
AntiGravity has ties back to Utah. An Acrobatic performance troupe founded in New York City in 1990 actually started this form of exercise. The man’s leader is a native of Brigham City.
Imagination Place in Salt Lake City teaches AntiGravity yoga. You can sign up for classes online and enjoy the benefits of floating in the air while you practice yoga.
