SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) - Wildlife officials say an endangered
Utah fish is showing signs of recovery.
The June sucker, which only lives in Utah Lake and its
tributaries, made its first appearance this year at a restored
creek near Springville.
Crews spent $1.3 million fixing up Hobble Creek last year so it
could host the rare fish, which are named for their June spawning
run.
Mike Mills, a local coordinator for the June sucker recovery
program, says about 100 of the fish used the creek in May and June,
a pleasant surprise for wildlife managers. He says the fish are
also showing up more often in samples taken from Utah Lake.
The June sucker was listed as an endangered species in 1986.
