SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News)- So what is really in the White House/Congressional Leadership Reconciliation bill? We hit the streets of downtown Salt Lake City to find out what people know about the bill.
Ted Garcia is a 49-year-old single father with one son. He’s a former US Army Sgt. First Class who was wounded fighting for his country in Iraq. I asked Garcia how much the healthcare bill costs.
Garcia said,” The cost varies every time I watch. It's just different stories.”
According to the Congressional Budget Office, the proposal will cost $940 billion dollars over a decade.
Who is covered and who's not. Garcia said, "It basically states all the above. The American populace is covered." In addition, parents would be able to keep older kids on their coverage up to age 26.
As a man who hires people, Garcia is interested in employer responsibility. The bill says employers of 50 or more full-time workers that do not offer coverage would pay a fee as high as $2,000 per worker if the government ends up subsidizing employees' coverage.
Garcia says he has been keeping up with coverage of the health care bill. Garcia said, "That’s why I watch CNN and I’ve been watching ABC 4, and the BBC to get different opinions of what's out there. Everybody has a different opinion and I'm just as confused as the next guy.”
Garcia says he's for the healthcare bill. But he's concerned the price tag will saddle future generations with debt.
