SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - West Valley City Mayor Mike Winder was locked in a tight race with Mark Crockett for the GOP nomination for Salt Lake County Mayor Tuesday night.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Crockett held a narrow 239-vote lead over Winder. Although it appears Crockett may have won, his margin of victory was not large enough to avoid an automatic recount.

As early returns came in, Crockett never trailed, but never led by more than 400 votes throughout the night.

Crockett is a former member of the county council, and currently works as a management consultant.

Winder experienced criticism after writing positive articles about West Valley City last year under a false name on a Utah news web site. He was reprimanded by the WVC Council, and apologized. He hoped the voting public would forgive him.
