SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A political painting is stirring up emotions across America. It's an artist's expression of what's happening on capital hill.
The painting is of President Obama stepping on the constitution. It has sparked controversy nationwide, but the artist is from right here in Utah.
In a Youtube video he said,”This man represents every man, woman, and child who is an American.”
A man sitting on a park bench looks down troubled about something. The artist behind it is Jon McNaughton from Provo. He added America stands on the precipice of disaster. “It’s an artist's interpretation of his political feelings,” said Salt Lake artist, Travis Tanner.
James Madison stands next to Obama asking him to stop. Dollar bills and other documents are scattered on the ground.
Tanner said controversy gets people moving. “It's good to have discussion and discourse about issues. We live in a country where we're free to do that and it's great, unfortunately there's not enough art like this in America anymore,” he commented.
He also pointed out it's also an artist’s way to survive. “A lot of artists are just like everyone else. There is a point where you have to paint things that are going to sell,” Tanner said.
