AMERICAN FORK, Utah (ABC 4 News) – American Fork father Dale Price goes by several names like “The Most Embarrassing Dad,” “The Dress Up Dad,” and “Mr. Wave at the Bus.” Now, the father of three is about to make his national television debut on Good Morning America.
It all started back in August at the beginning of American Fork High School’s school year. Dale Price challenged himself to wave to his son from his doorstep each morning as his then-15-year-old Rain Price boarded the school bus. Not only was he outside every morning before school at 7:10 a.m. but Dale did it dressed up in a different costume each day.
On Rain’s first day of high school his parents saw that his school but had changed its route and was passing in front of their house for the first time. They ran outside for a goodbye wave.
“And then after school my brother's like, ‘don't let Dad ever do that again.’ So, my dad kind of took that as a challenge and he came out and started doing it. Rain enjoys it,” said Rain’s older sister 19-year-old Rikki Price.
For the past school year, Dale has dressed up in a different get-up every single day. He dressed in costumes like a mermaid, pirate, construction worker, fireman, gypsy…the list is 170 days long.
“And he wore my sister's Tinkerbell,” said Dale’s youngest son, seven-year-old Ryatt.
“I think that it's funny and embarrassing for my brother,” said Ryatt.
And now this stunt is getting national attention. Who knew that dressing up in silly costumes for 170 days could land Rain and Dale on Good Morning America!
“No. We thought it would just be friends and neighbors following us and not really like random thousands of people who are awesome and helping us,” said Rikki.
After some pressure, the Price family started the
Mr. Wave At The Bus blog. The blog documents Dale’s daily disguises. It already has nearly four-million page views. If Dale decides to carry on this tradition, Ryatt says he’ll be ready.
“I know it's going to be embarrassing, but I like it,” said Ryatt.
You can catch Rain and Dale live on GMA at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8th.
