MIDVALE, UT (ABC4 News) Nikko Fuimaono says it was like winning the lottery, "Yeah, I am really lucky.I don't know what happened but I was just fortunate to get this position." He is one of 400 new workers at the two new WinCo supermarkets in the Salt Lake Valley. WinCo is an Idaho-based company and these are the first Utah stores.

Manager Josh Harris says he got about 4000 job applications and he could only hire 400, but those people, he says, are very hopeful and happy.

Harris and his team are working all weekend to get ready for the grand opening of the Midvale and West Valley City stores. "It's a pretty big process", he says, "many different people are involved...but I think we have it down pretty well".

The stores will be open 24 hours a day and Harris says the company is planning more grand openings in Utah over the next few years.

Utah is not as bad as other states for unemployment, but the unemployment rate has doubled in the state in the past year.  WinCo says it's proud to be one company that is growing here and providing jobs.  It also hopes it will add to the growing Utah economy.
