Programmable thermostats allow homeowners to program a specific schedule of when they want their heating or cooling to come on or turn off. Energy is reduced because the home is heated or cooled only when it needs to be.

 

Programmable thermostats can reduce a homeowner’s utility bill by about five percent or up to $200 a year.
