PROVO (ABC 4 News) - A 19-year-old Provo man turned himself into police this week and confessed that he sexually abused a number of children -- and even infants -- in the last couple of years, the Salt Lake Tribune
reported Friday.
Officials say William Leonard Butcher turned himself in on Wednesday, confessing on the spot to authorities what he had done. He now faces 13 counts of sexual abuse of a child, four counts of forcible sexual abuse, and sodomy on a child -- all felonies.
Authorities said Butcher admitted to the molestation, which the man said started when he was just 14 years old. During the confession, Butcher said his victims included boys and girls -- and even infants. He also noted that most of the abuse was committed after he turned 18, officials said.
The Provo Police Department did not reveal exactly why Butcher decided to turn himself in and admit to the crimes.
Butcher reportedly has no criminal history, and police are investigating whether there are additional victims.
