RALEIGH, N.C. (ABC 4 News) - An assistant basketball coach for the Utah Jazz was arrested on Monday for allegedly failing to pay state income taxes for the past three years, officials said.
Sidney Lowe, 53, was arrested by authorities in North Carolina on Monday who were acting on an outstanding warrant. Officials said Lowe, the former head coach at North Carolina State University, failed to file state tax returns in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Whether Lowe has yet to file a return for 2012 was not immediately known.
Lowe, who still owns a home in Wake Forest, N.C., faces three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a North Carolina state tax return. Jazz officials have acknowledged the arrest but have not yet publicly commented about Lowe's situation.
Lowe began his career as an assistant coach with the Jazz in October 2011, seven months after he resigned as the head coach at North Carolina State. He has also coached for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers. He was also a part of the 1983 North Carolina State national champion basketball team.
