LAYTON, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A 10-year-old girl is nearly abducted on her way home from school in Layton, and police need your help to find the attacker.

Even though the girl is ok, it left her so traumatized; it took her hours to finally tell someone what happened.

Police said the attack occurred Wednesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. The girl was walking through Oak Forest Park when suddenly what appeared to be a high school teenager came up from behind and grabbed her.

"He supposedly threw some punches and kicked her," said Lt. Jason Hinojosa, Layton Police Dept.

Officers said the girl was walking home from Adams Elementary. They believe the teenager tried to abduct her, but she claims he got scared and ran away.

"She did have some light bruising on her arms which seems to lend some credibility to her," said Hinojosa.

Parents of other Adams Elementary students said the attempted attack is alarming.

"It's terrifying," said Jamie Sanders, Layton parent.

"It's unnerving," said Kathryn Richey, Layton parent.

"It's every parent’s worst nightmare," said Roslyn Bentley, Layton parent.

Police describe the attacker as a white, high school age teenager, 5’ 7”, thin build, with tan skin. He was last scene wearing a long sleeve neon yellow t-shirt, baggy blue jeans, red shoes, and a dark ski mask. Investigators need your help to find him.

"Right now we're a little bit at a dead end, we don't have too many leads to follow up on, so any information would help," said Hinojosa.

Officers ask if you were in the area near Oak Forest Park Wednesday afternoon and you saw the attacker or anything suspicious, call police.
