PARK CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Prosecutors say a Summit County woman who gave birth to a drug-addicted baby was charged with child abuse over the weekend.
According to court documents, Shea Renee Sheeran gave birth to a baby boy on August 29.
Prosecutors say the boy was born with drug addiction symptoms, and spent several weeks in an intensive care unit while recovering. The boy was eventually given to a foster family, and prosecutors say he will suffer from the physical and mental effects of neonatal drug dependency and abuse for the rest of his life.
Court documents say Sheeran admitted to hiding her pregnancy from doctors as she obtained prescriptions for some powerful painkillers and other drugs.
According to the charging document, Sheeran and the baby both tested positive for controlled substances, including cocaine and opiates.
Sheeran also tested positive for methamphetamines.
Sheeran was charged with Child Abuse and Child Endangerment, both second degree felonies.
A warrant was issued for Sheeran's arrest.
