ROY, Utah. (ABC 4 News)- If an 18-year-old had taken the time to scrape her windshield, she may not have struck a Sheriff’s patrol truck.
Weber County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Win had just entered his vehicle after making a traffic stop at 3700 West and 5500 South when he was immediately hit by a 2000 Chrysler Sebring, around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.
Roy Police Officer John Frawley responded to the accident. The driver admitted to Frawley that she had not scraped off her front windshield and that the sun had further blinded her as she was driving. She had not seen the Sheriff’s patrol truck.
Both the driver and Win are fine, but the truck had a lot of damage. It is unsure if the vehicle can be fixed or if it will need to be replaced.
The driver of the Sebring was cited by police for driving with an obstructed windshield and failure to move or slow down for an emergency vehicle.
Officials ask that drivers take the time to properly clean their windshields to help prevent similar accidents in the future.
