Victim of Pitbull attack in Rose Park speaks out

I am not a fan of pit bulls, but come on! This was the best example of yellow journalism. This was embarrassing to listen to.

Unfortunately, even though the owner didn't let the dogs out, the fact that they both attacked a dog AND person THAT viciously demands that these animals be euthanized, unless they are SEVERELY trained/rehabilitated by a professional trainer/rescue. Clearly the owners are doing something wrong if their dogs are THIS aggressive. This is NOT an attack on pit bulls, but the owners. Unfortunately, bad and irresponsible owners are what make these dogs aggressive, they were not born that way. The owner is 100% responsible b/c they are HER dogs. She should step up and take responsibility, no matter who let them out. I am just so glad poor Gizmo is going to be okay.

Neither of the pits are neglected or not taking care of. They are both family in house dogs!

Another neglected dog added to the statistics. Pitbulls are still alright by me. Get to know one that was raised properly in a loving home and you will have new views about them.

You say Pitbulls are a nanny breed then you say never leave them alone with a child. You say there is no such breed as a Pitbull then in the next breath you say the shelter are filled with them and this non existing breed also score higher in tempremant test then labs. Iknow of know on going problem with lab maulings and killings. That test does not produce the results you claim you get your education from websites that are pro pitbull the breed that you say does not exist. Where in the name of god do people find it proper that any dog of any breed kills a person. Pitbulls are number one and the problem is breed specific. Otherwise we would not be having this conversation. There should be greed specific laws and if they existed for Pitbulls you would elimante 60% of the deaths and the vast majority of expenxive and disfiguring maulings. Then we need to address the dog bite epidemic which is shared by all breeds who can disfugure and some who also can kill. Their is a specific death and mauling problem with certain breeds and a general problem with all breeds. General laws will not address the specific problem. There are assualt guns and there are assualt dogs. States that don't have or overturn breed specifc laws do it for animal lobby money reasons not sound public safety and dog mangement reasons. How in the hell do you think Pitbulls of all of the vastly more important issues got into Marylands Special Session if not for money? Ban these breeds and end their deeds there are far more important issues.

My small 20lb beagle & I were just attacked yesterday, Nov 3, by a pitbull that broke thru its backyard gate. I was walking my dog across the street 330pm. I did the same... the PB charged us, my first instinct was to pick up my dog. The pit knocked me over. I hovered over my dog as I screamed for help. The pit bit my ear, at one point had me by the back of my hair. It seemed like forever. As I am laying on the sidewalk face down still screaming, i could feel i was losing control. The pit was ripping my dog out from underneath me. The owner finally realised what was happening and managed to get the dog off us. We both survived. I totally saved my dogs life, to this very minute, I cant believe there are no serious injuries. Except for the scaring and emotional damage of it replaying over and over. And Idk if I will ever walk my dog again.This has opened a whole new, scary world to me. The owner of the dog never came outside to see if I was ok. Nobody called 911. And there isnt an animal control officer on duty on the weekend. By Monday, the owner will have enough time to either take the dog elsewhere or leave herself. My name is Sara Boc. I was bit once, and chased once by German Shepherds. My dogs have been attacked 5 times by dogs that were not pits. However, one of my dogs was attacked and by a neighbors pit, and I own one who has never attacked any dog...here's my thought, you own it,it attacks,you are responsible. And if they are known to wander out of your yard and show aggression,then you rehab it, or put a lock on your gate. Or here's a thought, keep a lock on your gate anyways. I do, and my dogs are friendly. The owner is totally responsible.

Thankfully there are some intelligent life forces posting their comments on this thread. History has shown that ignorance and other less than desirable qualities have fueled many atrocities (Nazis - KKK...the list goes on). Educate not eradicate. Prejudice is ignorance in its ugliest form.

It's impossible to have an intelligent conversation when the "news station" posts an inflammatory and inaccurate photo to sensationalize their story--and can't even use proper grammar when writing it. As for "We Need BSL"'s post, pit bulls don't maim several people a day or kill a person every 13 days. As for your allegation of killing other pets, where do you get your statistics? Let me guess--dogsbite.org. They've never let facts stand in their way of their agenda. Anyone can make up statistics. Take a look at the National Canine Research Council's studies, or the American Temperament Testing Society. Look at the bite statistics from cities with breed discrimination--serious human injuries from canines are unchanged, since the problem (the humans) are not dealt with by banning certain breeds. And the comment "stupid rots and pits", well that kind of thoughtful examination of an issue belongs on an elementary school playground. Dogs are predators, dogs have prey drive. Yorkshire terriers and Pomeranians have killed infants. A Labrador mauled a child viciously in North Carolina not too long ago, and the first face transplant was done for a woman whose face was chewed off by her Lab. Omaha's bite list--topped by Labs. Where is all the outrage against Labradors? Why not ban all dogs larger than 35 lbs? Dogs who could jump over a 6' fence? Now that would just be silly, right? That would be an irrational knee-jerk reaction. It's not stupid pits and rots (or shepherds, or Akitas, or whatever). It's stupid people, and I'm including politicians and media here--who ignore the real problem and blame an animal for being an animal. Get your facts straight and put your attention where the fault lies.
