SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – A Utah lawmaker is proposing regulations that would make it more difficult for anyone under 18 to get a tattoo or piercing.
Rep. Jon Stanard wants to require businesses to get written consent from parents or legal guardians and photo copy their IDs. The business would then keep both records of consent on file.
Current law requires the parent to be present for either service, but Stanard said some businesses choose to turn a blind eye and allow the minor to get inked or pierced.
With the documentation requirement, parents could go back to the business and hold it accountable.
The bill received a committee hearing Wednesday.
