Earthquake, wild fire, biological warfare, one Utah family is ready for it all. Because of that, they're being featured on a new National Geographic show called "Doomsday Preppers."

"I like to say we're an all American family who moonlight preps," said dad, Braxton Southwick.

Preppers are people who prepare for the extreme. So what are the Southwick’s prepping for?

"A biological terrorist attack, all they need is a jar of liquid," Braxton said.

His big fear is that a terrorist will drop a jar of small pox into a major metropolitan area wiping-out the U.S. that concern started out small, but exploded after 9/11.

"We started a food storage when we first got married just a small one but after 911 something got stirred up inside me of how vulnerable we were," Braxton said.

So what have they prepped? The typical stuff: two way radios, household supplies, radioactive suits, and of course tons of food.

"I bet we could feed our family completely with what we have stored not just this but what we have in the house for at least a year," said Braxton’s wife, Kara.

When national geographic got wind of the Southwicks, they had to get them on the show.

"I actually had to convince my wife and the kids a little bit but especially the wife,” Braxton said.

The shoot took an entire day and the family said it was draining, but the hardest part was waiting to see the final product.

"There was a period of a few months where we were like gosh, what are they going to do, how's it going to look, what are people going to say," Kara said.

In the end, the family was happy with how the show turned out. They just hope their prepping will make others out there think about what could happen in the future.
