SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News)- Many small business owners say the new health care requirements will force them out of business. Now a Utah businessperson says the opposite. She says that a new health care system will save her company.
Betsy Burton is the co-owner of The King's English Bookstore at 1511 south and 1500 east. She says she kept a close eye on the health care vote. Burton said,” It's terrifying to me. If this bill doesn’t pass we may be bankrupt within the year.”
Burton was worried that if the bill didn't pass she would have had to consider going out of business after more than 30 years at the same location. She says she's drowning in insurance premiums for her 25 employees.
Burton had another reason for lawmakers to vote yes on healthcare. She says she has a 25-year old brain damaged son with a “pre-existing condition.” She says Nicholas was uninsurable with insurance companies. However, with the bill's passage Sunday night there is hope for Burton and her son.
This is a stark contrast to the business owner featured Saturday night on ABC 4. We talked to a contractor for the defense department. He said the bill's passage would force him to layoff some of his employees.
