PROVO, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A small single-engine plane crashed about a half mile south of the Provo Municipal Airport Wednesday evening.

30-year-old Benjamin Hill, a Utah Valley University employee and student was the only one on board and was killed in the crash.

According to rescue officials, the Hill was flying a Cessna 210 and  was landing when the accident happened. Engine problems were reported four miles out, and the pilot crashed a half-mile to one mile away from the airport near the Dike Road.

Hill was most recently a student in the program's online aviation administration track.  However, he was not flying a UVU aircraft or in on assignment from the University at the time of the crash.

He was my instrument instructor from Aug of 2008 to Feb. of 2009. He was a great pilot and was really experienced in all types of situations. The aviation world has lost a good man.
