OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Haz-mat teams responded to an Internal Revenue Service office on Monday.

The haz-mat teams and other emergency personnel were called to 1973 North Rulon White Blvd., to deal with a possible chemical situation.

Original reports suggested that some employees may have been exposed to a powder found in some mail at the facility.

An official with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service later determined that the substance was not hazardous.

Parts of the facility were evacuated as haz-mat teams worked to clear the building.

Two people suffered medical emergencies during the incident, but officials say those emergencies were not related to the haz-mat situation.

FBI Statement on IRS haz-mat incident

The FBI Salt Lake City Division, in collaboration with Weber County Fire and Weber County Sheriff’s Office responded this morning to a possible hazardous material threat at the IRS building in Farr West, Utah.

The FBI continues to investigate the incident along with its federal and local partners.

The area where the threat was received was isolated by removing employees from that area.

Some individuals did suffer medical emergencies which, at this time, do not appear to be related to this incident. The investigation continues and no further details can be released.
