ROY, Utah (ABC 4 News) -Roy police say a man cleaning his shotgun accidentally shot a 9-year-old boy. Police say the bullet came from a mobile home at the Monte Vista Mobile Home Park located at 1900 West 3800 South.

Chief Greg Winham said, “To be walking down the street everybody should think that's about the safest thing they could do.”

The 28-year old man has been identified as David Gunlock.

Police say 9-year-old Braden Shcroeder of northern Utah was walking with his grandfather when the blast occurred. The shotgun fire struck the boy in the leg and chest. He suffered shotgun pellet wounds from his neck down to his legs.

Chief Winham says the boy was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center with multiple injuries. The boy is still in critical condition but is stabilized somewhat. Doctors say he's going to pull through this incident. Charges have not been filed against Gunlock.
