UHP police dog struck by semi on I-80

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A K-9 with the Utah Highway Patrol was struck and killed by a truck rig Friday in the Salt Lake Area.
The K-9 was an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois (mal-n-wah) named Tank. He was on duty with his handler of four years when the accident occurred.
When the UHP officer stopped on the shoulder of I-80 to give Tank a routine break, the dog took off and was struck by the truck.
The officer said it was uncharacteristic of the dog to run off like that.
