SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square open the Christmas season Sunday performing at the annual First Presidency Christmas Devotional.

Along with many Christmas carols and classics, the traditional Christmas devotional featured speeches from LDS church leaders centered on Christ and his birth.

The true reason for the season is something Church President Thomas Monson reminded the audience not to forget.

"Christmas is what we make of it. Despite all the distractions, we can see to it that Christ is at the center of our celebration," President Monson said earlier in a statement. "The spirit of Christmas is the spirit of love and of generosity and of goodness. It illuminates the picture window of the soul, and we look out upon the world's busy life and become more interested in people than in things."
