SALT LAKE CITY, Utah ( ABC 4 News)-They are eye-catching airfare deals that you might not be able pass up. Southwest Airlines is offering one way fares as low as $30.00.

15 years ago people were excited to be able to go coast to coast for $99.00.Southwest is even beating out those deals. Summer travel is at its weakest level in years, airlines are nervously looking to the fall.

Airline industry experts say what Southwest is doing is amazing. Rick Seaney is the CEO of farecompare.com. Seaney says,” It’s breathtaking, but it is for a purpose, and that's really to get some people in those seats for fall travel.”

Travel from September 9 -November 18 and its $30.00 one way. That's to cities that are up to 400 miles from Salt Lake City. Those are cities like Denver, Las Vegas, and Boise.

For $60.00, you can visit cities from 401 to 750 miles from Salt Lake City like Albuquerque, San Francisco, and Portland.

For $90.00, you can fly from Salt Lake City to cities more than 750 miles away. That’s a bargain to Chicago, Detroit, Nashville, Orlando, and Baltimore.

The travel and tourism industry is reeling. This could be a much needed shot in the arm. Now, others airlines might join in. Seaney says,” Nobody wants to be undercut in this economy. When one of them has a sale they all have a sale.”

AirTran and Frontier have similar sales going on right now. However, here's the catch with Southwest. Their sale ends in at 11pm MDT Wednesday night.
