I really hope the real truth comes out on this, to set the record straight. @wwteacher: you really are on target, but sometimes the district's hands are tied. @lucca: good timelines and accurate history for Patten. @sad for wwhs: yes Toni was a victim in this also, and I hope the truth comes out; people will be thinking "oh yeah, that makes sense now". @rubee: Don't be so quick to judge. You sound terribly jealous for some reason. Just because a person is quiet and stays to themselves, doesn't mean they think they are "above" someone else. Stop and take all facts into consideration before judgement is made. And you have hardly any facts at this time.

It is the responsibility of the teacher, the principal, and the district to do every thing reasonably possible to keep students safe. Many teachers, myself included, argued that Patten was a walking time bomb who would one day hurt someone seriously, and should be expelled. Had this been done, had the district done its job, maybe Micaela would still be with us. I hope ECSD is held accountable for such incredible negligence.

Just to set the record straight "sad for WWHS", Patten has had MANY principals throughout his school career...at least 6! There's only so much a school can do...what happened to parents being hekd accountable for their child's actions? If people would quit blaming the schools for their child's poor behavior and start being parents and teaching their child to be a good citizen, instead of making excuses and protecting them when they do something wrong, we would see fewer of these horrific incidents. Seriously, the writing was on the wall for this kid MANY years ago...excuse after excuse was made for him from home! Now, he is a murderer...not much of a surprise to those who have known him.

As a person who has dealt with Patten and his outbursts and total disregard for authority; also been called names by him in the classroom...I can honestly say all school authorities have attempted time and time again to help Patten and to help others affected by him. When an individulas parents come in screaming at the administration and teachers at the school and making a scene, accusing all school officials of "picking on their son," it sure makes it look as if the school is turning their backs on "bullying," but that is so far from the truth! WW schools have done everything within their power to protest everyone from this sociopath...he has exhibited this behavior since elementary school...there's only so much a school can do! I cannot say much for how law enforcement has dealt with him, as I have no knowledge of his record outside of school. Patten has been protected his entire life by his parents and excuses have been made for his outrageous behavior since he was young. Well, now he has committed the ultimate crime and they will not be able to bail his worthless behind out of this one. Please, do not blame the community of West Wendover, as they have gone above and beyond in trying to help this idiot! It is a shame that Fratto got mixed up with Patten, she was a good kid when she was younger.

It's no wonder that more than one student was involved in this. West Wendover is known for its atmosphere of abuse and bullying. If you want a real story, look into what he really was like growing up. He had the same principal through most of grade school and high school. Bullies are just passed on from one teacher to another without any consequences. The goal is to hurry up and get them through with school so they don't have to be dealt with. Suspensions and expulsions from school for bullying is almost unheard of. He was known for being a bad kid since the second grade. Ask any teacher at either school. When a fight breaks out they turn their backs because if they try to intervene the teacher is likely to be punished instead of the students. In fact, a long term sub was "encouraged" to leave the school after a student hit him. No punishment was given to the student. Micaela didn't stand a chance. West Wendover doesn't face problems with bullies. Even Toni was abused by Kody. Even with whatever participation she had with this, she was also a victim. Granted, now a victim who should get what she deserves for her participation in this, but still a victim.

wow this so sad and stupid i swear its funny how people like cody and her thought they were so much higher then people and would bring people down when there not much themselves they are lower then 6 feet in to the ground its sad how help someone doing this for a couple of days seeing how her mother would cry and suffer but ughh what ever justice will happen n mickey rip your in a better place now
