That information in that complaint was disjointed and irrelevant. It did not rise to the level of even a misdemeanor let alone warrant dismissal. The attorney that drafted this complaint should not have been allowed to graduate from whatever mail order joint issued his diploma. The parents that started this mess should be ashamed of their conduct. They are not equipped to have their children engage in any type of competitive setting. They are DISGRUNTLED and threw a tantrum that, unfortunately, was heard by the administration. It is pathetic and was not handled in a civil manner. They acted in a vindictive manner and should not be lauded as hero's. I would not want to coach any of these kids knowing how vitriolic and psychologically challenged their parents are. Good Luck finding a new coach loan peak. Tony, I would support you as a football coach in Granite school district. We love winners here!

after reading the full complaint I was shocked, there is easily enough evidence, just in attached emails, to prosecute criminally, which should be done immediately along with any others, including parents, who were complicit in this shameful mess. what a joke high school football culture has become, i plan to make sure my children's "high profile" coach and program are very aware of the exact allegations of this complaint. many of the allegations smack of experiences we are having in our program. I would applaud the school/coach who had the balls to run a basic 6 week before school starts in the fall, 2 weeks of two a days program, and go compete with these college wannabe programs and probably do just fine. Ultimately it just comes down to who has the best athletes, the fast guys score, etc. , why burn out everyone when the bottom line doesnt change. These guys are not doing it for the kids, they do it for the most common of human foibles, power and pride. McGreary points to 30 of "his" players going on to college teams to justify his method. At 185 players per cycle of 3 years, in a 5 year career, that could be seen as well below 10% of kids he had. With the way Lone Peak "recruits" i would call that abysmally low. This guy actually sucked at his method if players going to college teams was the goal. Further indicating that self aggrandizement and privilege are the real motivations, even if it is subconscious to the perpetrator. Anyone can fall to these pressures, but for the grace of God..... It is the system and enforcement of the system that has to be watched and beefed up. I would love to see the district enforce a 6 week only lead into the season, etc. strip away all the crap, then it could only be about the boys and having fun playing a game, rather than career level commitment at 14, only a small percentage can take to the next level anyway. The same small % that would take it to the next level no matter what a program did.

Dennis, I have reviewed the complaint. It sounds like a daddy of one or more of the players was upset because their little Johnny did not get the playing time they wanted. The complaint is ridiculous and petty. It is even more suspect because NONE of the parents had the temerity to sign the complaint. The contention that it was "disorganized" is patently ridiculous. As compared to other programs in the state it must have been more organized practiced better player selection than other programs as evidenced by their STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and WINNING RECORD. This complaint is idiotic at best and subversive at worst. The fact that the administration (both at the school and district level) caved to this useless fodder is laughable. These parents should be ashamed of their actions Like I said earlier, good luck finding anyone who will coach there with "concerned parents" like these.

McGeary and his coaching staff also get to keep their ill-gotten money and their jobs as well? Is that what we're supposed to read into this article? I'd be far more interested in knowing the opinion of the Utah County Attorney's Office in all this, rather than that of a paid spokesperson for the District who so arrogantly refused to even talk about it. Perhaps that same thought occurred to some of those upset parents as well, but this article doesn't say. One would logically think that an investigation into these several allegations of "scandal" -- which sound more like fraud arising from theft by deception -- might have included the DA's review of that 42-page complaint, rather than tamely interviewing a few emotionally-affected high school players. Hopefully, ALL the facts will be forthcoming as this story continues to unfold. But since McGeary was forced to resign as football coach, apparently because of that complaint, yet still remains employed by the District as a P-E teacher, it appears that "Touchdown Tony" has scored once again, with a $5,375 bonus to boot. Small wonder his semi-"resignation letter" reads as it does. And while the District might feel "that it handled the situation fairly" (as McGeary would seem to agree), the REAL issue here seems to be whether it acted legally in light of the factual allegations of the complaint. It would be good if Brian Carlson could provide a link to that complaint so we could ALL read those allegations for ourselves, while the Utah County DA reviews its legal merits and possible ramifications, if any. But as public employees who draw their salaries from the taxpayers of this state, it appears the Alpine School District needs to be reminded of that fact. If spokesperson Rhonda Bromley claimed she couldn't talk about that complaint, then Brian should have insisted on talking to her superiors until he found one who would -- or perhaps the DA should be given the final opportunity to explain it's odd legalities.

Was a great coach. The disgruntled parents should be ashamed of themselves. I'm shocked anyone would want to coach high school athletics in the current environment. All they did was weaken a great high school program. Once again, the whining minority rules the majority. RIP Lone Peak Football
