CORINNE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Sandy man who led officers on a chase through Box Elder County died after being shot by an officer Friday night.

A Box Elder County Sheriff Deputy pulled up to Troy Clark Berkinshaw, 52, urinating on the side of Highway 13, just east of Corinne around 8 p.m., said Sheriff Lynn Yeates  of the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office.

While the officer was in the process of running Berkinshaw's license, he fled the scene in his own vehicle, Yeates. The officer then chased him to a dead end road near the Corinne City building, at which point he exited his vehicle, prompting the officer to get out and prepare to arrest him. Instead of complying, Berkinshaw allegedly got back into his car in an attempt to run over the officer. The officer then fired his gun at the man, hitting and killing him.

Details on why Berkinshaw ran are unkown. Police say he had given the officer a fake name.

Utah Highway Patrol was called to the scene to help investigate the incident, said Yeates.

this is not about peeing on the side of the road it is about giving a fake name, running from the officer and then trying to kill him with his vehicle. Tragic ending but that officer did not deserve to die and I for one am very grateful to God he didn't. But don't think for a minute life will ever be the same for him. Geeze people
