SOUTH OGDEN, Utah (ABC 4 News) -- Police in Davis County are looking for a man who tried to kidnap a 7-year old boy Wednesday afternoon. At 1:38 p.m. the boy got off a public school bus near 585 East 39th Street and was approached by a car. The man behind the wheel opened up the passenger door and offered the boy a cookie. South Ogden Police Officer Marci Edwards said the man became aggressive when the boy said no. "He told him 'take the cookie and get inside the car. "

Instead the 7-year old took off running and screaming for help. He ran for the closest building, a private Christian school. Dennis Long, principal of Wasatch Christian School, knew that something was wrong when the boy came in. Both my secretary and I were there in the front office and we asked him immediately what happened, and that's when he told us, 'some guy tried to get me.' He looked like he'd seen a ghost. He was pretty shaken up."

The South Ogden police station is just a block away from the school so officers were able to get on scene quickly, but here was no sign of the man or his car. The boy described the suspect as a white man in his 20's with brown hair that covered his ears, glasses and freckles. The description of his car may be the key to finding him. The boy said it was a light blue sedan with flame stickers on its taillights.

Long praised the boy, "Really, for a little 7-year old boy he did exactly what he was supposed to do." Even though the boy was not a student at his school, he's sent an email to his parents advising them of the situation and reminding them to be vigilant when dropping off their children. He's also notified other school principals in the area about the incident.

For their part, Officer Marci Edwards said South Ogden Police are actively looking for the man and have put out an "attempt to locate" advisory to other departments in Northern Utah. She also praises the boy for his quick thinking. "You know, he did everything you'd hope your own child would do. We would encourage all parents to take this opportunity to talk to their children about these types of events so they can be prepared like this young man was."

She also encourages anyone with information on this attempted abduction to call South Ogden Police. 801-629-8221
