SANDY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A shooting outside an apartment complex at 9540 South Brandy Springs Lane in Sandy has left one person dead.

Police are still investigating the incident, but believe it was a domestic situation that escalated into gunfire.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center and was undergoing emergency surgery.

He later died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to Sgt. Jon Arnold of the Sandy Police Department, the man found with the gun in his hand has been released without arrest after investigation and consultation with the Salt Lake District Attorney's office. A formal screening of the case will be conducted later this week.

Thank you twistysnacks, I kind of thought it was something like that, especially when I read the police say they were questioning the woman who is leasing the apt. I was thinking maybe he got caught up in the crib with somebody's woman. Sad still.

The dude kicked down the apartment door and was shot when he rushed the guy inside. It's sad. Nobody here is happy. But he took it upon himself to kick down the door.
