ALPINE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Lone Peak Police Department asked for help from the public to catch some burglars who stole several items from an Alpine home recently.
Among the missing items are several guns and police badges that were contained inside a safe that was taken from the home on August 28 at around noon.
The home belonged to Casee Turner and her husband. When she returned from taking her children to school she knew there was trouble. She recalls seeing a cabinet in the garage which is used to store her husbands weapons was broken into.
"My husband has three rifles and they were all missing," she says. "That was my first clue someone had been in the house."
She went into the home and saw her husband's grandparents.
They live next door and saw a van backup to the home.
"They'd seen me coming and that's when they took off," William Turner says.
He checked the house and saw three more burglars inside.
"By the time I went clear around the house and got around here they was going back out here," Turner says.
And they disappear into the neighborhood.
But the Turners soon learned a 1400 hundred pound safe was gone.
"We believe that they must have unlocked it (dppr) and taken it through the door," Casee Turney says.
The Turners suspect the four thieves carried the safe out the house and into the van. There were tire tracks on the lawn that indicated where someone had pulled up to the house.
Turner says a number of rifles, police badges and jewelry are taken.
Lone Peak police say two of the men were described as African American and the other one or two as Caucasian.
Police say the men were using a white full-size van or minivan with unknown plates.
The safe was described as a large dark green Champion Gun Safe with silver dials and hardware. The police badges came from 7 different jurisdictions.
Police say the safe's owner has worked as a police officer in Utah, but was working out of state in law enforcement at the time of the burglary.
Lone Peak Police Lt. Brian Gwilliam told ABC 4 News the safe contained 4-5 rifles, including an AR-15 rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, and a shotgun.
Gwilliam said the safe also contained knives and 4-5 handguns, including a .40 caliber pistol, a .357 Magnum, and a .45 "Glock" type gun.
Gwilliam said the burglary appeared to have been planned out carefully, considering the manpower and vehicle required to take the large safe.
