FARR WEST, Utah (ABC 4 News) – A Pleasant View Police officer is being credited for saving a young boy’s life who nearly drowned over the weekend.
Operator: “Hello, this is 911.”
Caller: “Yes my little, my grandson just fell in the pool and we didn’t know how long he’s been
in there.”
Everyone was in a panic.
Caller: “Open the doors, open the doors, open the doors, open the doors, open the doors,
hurry!”
Saturday night at the Comfort Inn in Farr West a little boy lay unconscious and appeared to have drowned.
Operator: “Okay, is he awake?”
Caller: “No, he’s not.”
Operator: “Is he breathing?”
Caller: “No, he’s not.”
“I just cleared a traffic stop when I heard the call go out over the radio,” said Officer Kyley Slater, Pleasant View Police Dept.
Officer Kyley Slater with Pleasant View police was on patrol near the Inn and rushed to the scene in roughly 30 seconds.
“When I got there I picked him up and moved him out of the water further and laid him on his side,” said Slater.
Slater gave the boy several blows to the back and the boy gasped for air.
Caller: “Okay, he’s breathing now.”
(Crying)
“It’s okay now. We have him breathing. It’s okay.”
After a short stay at the hospital, ABC 4 is told the boy is alive and doing fine. Thanks to Officer Slater the family can now sleep with comfort.
“It’s our job, it’s what we’re here to do, we’re here to help people. Sometimes we’re faster than others but I just happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Slater said.
