PARK CITY (ABC 4 News) - The Park City Cemetery is not taking any chances after a headstone crushed and killed 4-year-old Carson Cheney at nearby Glenwood Cemetery earlier this month.

Staffers at the cemetery on Kearns Boulevard are taking precautionary steps to help prevent a similar tragedy from happening on their property.

"Park City has taken precaution to reevaluate the entire cemetery to make sure another event like this doesn't happen again," said Jason Glidden, Business Development Manager at Park City Municipal Corporation.

Jason tells ABC4's Emerson Lotzia that the Parks Department found a dozen tombstones that could pose a threat to people.  Those headstones considered dangerous are now surrounded by cautionary tape.

"The city has a maintenance program that is currently in place, that is ongoing, that addresses any issues that come up and makes sure that the facility is safe for everyone to go visit," said Glidden.

ABC4 found one headstone at the Park City Cemetery that had already fallen over.  That headstone, like most that have caution tape surrounding them, date back to the late 1800s.  So how do you make something like a headstone safer?

"Right now the plan has not been established," said Glidden.  "What they've done is gone through and identified those spots that they want to take a closer look at."

The Parks Department will soon reevaluate the situation and come up with a strategic plan to present to mayor Dana Williams and the city council.  They will then decide what steps to take next in this process.

Meanwhile, Glenwood Cemetery remains closed as a result of Cheney's death.
