HOLLADAY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A Midvale detective has resigned after being cited for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Midvale City attorney announced the resignation at a press conference on Tuesday.

The city attorney says Detective John Salazar was seen driving an unmarked police vehicle in Holladay early Sunday morning, when he hit three parked cars on Wallace Lane.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputies administered field sobriety tests, to which Salazar accepted.

Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Don Hutson says Salazar was cooperative with investigating deputies, who responded to several 911 calls about the crash.

The unmarked police vehicle belongs to Midvale City. Salazar also had a passenger with him in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

I think it is also a crime that the officers at the scene decided to just issue him a citation insted of arresting him and taking him to jail like they would have for anybody else in the community
