Police investigate the death of a 62-year-old man at a downtown Smith's Express (Byrin Miller, ABC 4 News)
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - A man was killed after getting into a fight at a convenience store in Salt Lake City Wednesday night.

Salt Lake City Police were called to the Smith's Express at 873 East South Temple around 7:15 p.m. after witnesses say a man entered the store and assaulted another customer.

Police tell ABC 4 News the 62-yr-old man yelled at a clerk and then punched a 53-year-old male customer.

According to customers, the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Following the man's attack, the other shopper then hit back, striking the man in the head.

The victim was later identified as Alfred Montoya.

Police say Motoya then stumbled out of the store, slumped into his car and passed out.

An ambulance rushed Montoya to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police are now investigating this case as a homicide.
