I know for a fact you will not get kicked out of the church because you are speaking out against gay marriage ban on California ballot. From reading what people have said, their are other LDS members speaking up also. Be true to yourself, stand tall.

The position of the LDS Church is that they take no POLITICAL stance, but reserve the right to express opinions on MORAL issues. They do not endorse candidates or "[tell] people how to vote in an election" for the vast majority of issues. In fact, this is only the second instance I'm aware of, and the first was over the same issue in 2000. Of COURSE religion plays a part in how people vote: it's part of their system of beliefs; but in the case of the LDS Church, it's after the fashion of "teach them correct principles, and let them govern themselves." This man was not and will not be excommunicated for his opinion on this issue, but COULD be for an attitude of rebellion against the leaders of the Church (not by voting differently, but by condemning them for THEIR opinions and accusing them of preaching false doctrine). On a side note, notice that ALL of the hate-speech in these comments has been directed towards the Church and its leaders and members, and NOT towards homosexuals. Why? Because we don't hate them. That isn't the issue.

Egregious political activism from the pulpit, no matter what denomination, should be rewarded in the same way: loss of tax exempt status. Direct advancement of a political position by the LDS in a manner that essentially demands of its adherents specific performance at the polls in order to remain in good standing should be sufficient to cause loss of tax exempt status for the Church. This is now provable in court and the appropriate law enforcement should take place immediately. Responsible authorities need to stop looking the other way as church leaders of whatever denomination break the law. Pull the LDS tax exempt status, and we can say good-bye to excessive meddling of religion in our system.
