PINEVIEW RESERVOIR, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A man drowned Monday night after trying to save his son in Pineview Reservoir.
Weber County Sheriffs Deputies responded to the Pineview Reservoir area after receiving a 911 call of a boy that had possibly drowned.
Weber County officials sent boats into the water and recovered the body of Jose Bahena, 42, of Ogden.
Investigators said a language barrier kept them from understanding what initially happened. The Bahena family speaks Spanish.
Sylvia Mejia, Jose's wife, said she is devastated by the loss. She had just married Bahena eight days ago at Ogden City Hall.
She said she thought Bahena would resurface from the water on the other side of the reservoir, but he never did.
Officials said Bahena and his two sons were near the middle inlet of the reservoir when Bahena jumped in to save his the 11-year-old son who was struggling to stay afloat.
County officials said the boy's 12-year-old brother, who was wearing a life jacket, was able to save the younger boy.
"I feel like I'm dreaming," Mejia said in Spanish. "I just want him to walk through the front door and tell me all of this isn't true."
