SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An 83-year-old driver faces a negligent homicide charge after allegedly hitting and killing a man working in a storm drain in Draper.

John Amos of Sandy is due in court Nov. 29 in connection with the incident April 18.

Police say they found 52-year-old Thayne Hansen slumped over with his face submerged in water inside the drain at the Draper Spectrum shopping center.

He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say Amos used a handicap ramp that's not meant for cars as a shortcut into the parking lot and apparently didn't see Hansen when he drove over the drain.

Negligent homicide is a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to a year in jail.

Amos didn't immediately return a call seeking comment on Tuesday.
