Oaks was raised by a single mother and that his perspective as a member of the state Supreme Court provided insight to major crimes and breakdowns in society and is recommending that 2 parents is better than one but says "There are surely cases when a divorce is necessary for the good of the children, but those circumstances are exceptional. In most marital contests the contending parents should give much greater weight to the interests of the children. With the help of the Lord, they can do so. Children need the emotional and personal strength that come from being raised by two parents who are united in their marriage and their goals. As one who was raised by a widowed mother, I know firsthand that this cannot always be achieved, but it is the ideal to be sought whenever possible." Horrible reporting? I'd say so.... Attempts at shaking a hornets nest by expressing extremes not actually indicated only adds to the anti-Mormon sentiment people cannot let go of... but let the stigmas continue while the rest of us pay attention to details and the actual purpose and intent of the speech given. Another thing to keep,in mind is that all of these men speaking during these church broadcasts HAVE to interview men and women of the church trying to return to member-in good status so to speak and they see people's situations, what they go through and the decisions they have made to get to that point. If a court justice, counselor and well educated man says something makes a difference, you might want to consider adding it to the equation "whenever possible". Hence why the church said elder oaks words "speak for themselves". Anyone who gets offended after hearing ALL undistorted parts was looking to get offended anyways, so would it really matter?

hmmmm I'm doing an amazing job raising my disabled son on my own because his father opted out when he was born with so many problems. I ALSO was raised in a two parent household but my dad was army and my mom worked full time so from about 10 on I was a "latch key kid" My dad was out of town a lot with the military and my mom had to work to help pay the bills even though there were only TWO kids in our family. The LDS "leaders" don't like to be very realistic about things do they. Only in Utah would it be feasible for a family to have 6 kids and one parent be able to stay home all day with them. And how does that make that family better off? What if the mom OR dad is bitter and resentful about being stuck at home all the time?? What if they are abusive?? There are too many elements not even discussed in this LDS slanted article.

Why did you not interview any single parents for the article? Why do only married couples get to voice an opinion on single parenting. According to Brit Stansfield, only single mothers work. She must live in a different era than I do. I know many mothers who work outside of the home, both married and single. I'm sure glad the LDS chuch aims to make single parents feel less than, inadequate, and quilty for something that may be out of their control.
