CEDAR CITY, Utah (ABC 4 News) – Christopher Dorner’s time in Utah was brief, but people remember him.

Dorner moved to Cedar City to attend Southern Utah University and graduated in 2001 with a degree in Political Science.

College classmate James Usera recalls Dorner being very smart. Usera is now an attorney in Salem, Oregon.

“Frankly he seemed to have his act together,” Usera said.

Dorner was a running back for the Thunderbirds. A former teammate said Dorner was not the best player, but he did well.

Dorner credits Usera in his manifesto for introducing him to outdoor sports like fishing and hunting.

Usera said Dorner called him out of the blue four years ago to talk. During the conversation Usera said Dorner complained about problems with the LAPD.

Usera said there was nothing to ever hint Dorner would be a hunted man accused of a killing spree that so far has no end.
