What have I gotten myself into? I’ve been asking myself that question a lot ever since I agreed to compete in this year’s Dancing with the Salt Lake Stars. It’s a great event that raises money for the American Cancer Society, but it also requires me learning how to dance!
I can do the electric slide and free style with my friends like nobody’s business, but start adding choreographed steps into the mix and I’m a mess with two left feet.
Thankfully, I have ABC 4 co-workers also embarking on this terrifying journey with me. Curtis Ray and Gretchen Jensen are also learning a routine. We all have been partnered up with amazing dance instructors from DF Dance Studios in South Salt Lake. We have about a month to nail down a routine before we perform it on stage in front of a live audience. Scary!
I have only my crazy-talented and incredibly patient dance instructor, Emanuel, to thank for any progress I make. So far I’ve had three practices and let’s just say we have plenty of work ahead of us to get me to the point where I’m not stepping on my own feet! Yes, that really happens.
Truth be told, I am having a blast learning this dance and trying something totally new. The real payoff will be at the end when we get to see how much all of our hard work will help a great cause. Dancing with the Salt Lake Stars will take place March 1st at the Downtown Salt Lake Sheraton.
