Josh Powell attends Susan Powell vigil (KOMO)
Josh Powell is apparently shopping around for a new church. On the website Susanpowell.org, which is widely believed to be written by Josh and his father, Steven Powell, there was this paragraph:

“Finding trustworthy spiritual support is more critical now than ever, since according to the media, members of the Mormon community had been pressuring Susan to divorce Josh on the basis of his beliefs. Josh and his family have recently enjoyed the fellowship of religious communities that share his and Susan's pro-family values. They have been investigating Christianity as an alternative to Mormonism. Vibrant faith communities in the local area have been very supportive and have been helping Josh and his family through the turmoil.” (Emphasis added)

But Kiirsi Hellewell, a close friend of Susan Cox Powell and a member of the same LDS Ward in West Valley, disputes the claim of a conspiracy to split up Josh and Susan. She said, “Everyone was extremely supportive. Everyone was very friendly to Josh. After Susan disappeared, everyone gave him the benefit of the doubt, helped him move, and invited him over for dinner. We did everything we could to help him.”

Friends of Susan cannot believe that Josh could abandon his faith over something the “media” might have said. It is equally unbelievable to the family of Susan Cox Powell.

Tuesday evening, the family issued this statement through a spokeswoman:

“Susan would be heartbroken. He is making decisions that are contrary to her wishes. She was the one who took the lead in matters of faith. We see this as another attempt by Josh to close the door on Susan and forget all about her.”

Hellewell was even more blunt, “Every decision he’s made since she disappeared has been against what she would want.”

This weekend marks 6 months since Susan Cox Powell disappeared from her home in West Valley City, Utah. Josh Powell remains the only person of interest in the ongoing police investigation.

Funny how each religion blames the other religion. If you stood away from the trees and looked at the forest you would see it is religion itself that is the root of ALL evil.

Josh Powell had left the Mormon Church...he had nothing in common with the church or it's doctrines. Christ is centered on love and long-suffering...Mr Powell was a murderer and showed none of the Savior's attributes or those that members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints strive to live.

IMPORTANT MEMO TO JOSH POWELL: MAY YOU NEVER REST IN PEACE, YOU EVIL, DECEIPTFUL DERANGED PSYCHO P.O.S. WIFE-MURDERING, BABY-KILLER. WE ONLY REGRET THAT YOU DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO ROT IN PRISON FOR A FEW YEARS SO SOME OTHER SLIMY MURDERER COULD SLOWLY CUT YOU TO PIECES (the way you did your innocent victims) FOR BEING A CHILD-MURDERER (yes, there still is a little bit of honor left even among some slimy murderers, JP, just not you). OUR WISH IS THAT YOU ROT IN THE DARKEST PART OF HELL, JP, YOU NO-GOOD SCRAWNY LITTLE SATANTIC MOTHERLESS SON OF HITLER. FRANK IN UT/AZ

We knew the mormon community will do and say anything to distance themselves from Josh and Steve Powell - but this is pathetic. Both of them were and still are MORMON. Own it.

The explanation of the CULT of Mormonism is very well explained in one of the comments that apply to Mitt Romney and any other "Mormon" follower. Josh is truly in Hell and will be for all eternity. Don't know about his wife Susan as she may have repented before she was murdered and only God knows that. As for the boys, God alone knows their outcome as well.

While I have deep, substantive concerns and objections to the Mormon doctrines, I also must chasten my own Christian family just as fervently. Some Christians, particularly those of protestant persuasion, have nearly elevated the bible to become the fourth member of the trinity (quadernary?). We regularly practice bibliolotry with our radical claims of infallibility (which is a belief that is found no where in the Bible). A worthwhile endeavour for the bibliocentric believers would be to read Stanley Hauerwas' book titled Unleashing the Scripture. We don't worship a book. We worship a God who reveals Himself to His creation through many means, including the Holy Scriptures, as well as prayer, worship, the Church, nature, Holy Communion, etc. An even more worthwhile endeavor would be to seek God's Grace to reflect His love in our words and to "speak truth in love."

Dear Somboun, thank you for your common sense and conviction. Deedee4him & Khakilu you seen like nice & sincere people who read a lot, have opinions, but have never asked God, our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ if the conclusions you came to are really true and accurate. And if the Holy Bible is the Infallible Word of God why are there nearly 50 different versions of the Bible? If is perfect why try to continually fix something that is not broken. The King James Version is the Word of God as far as it is translated correctly. The Bible was perfect as it fell from the pen of the "original" writers. I hope you know and comprehend that concept. Do you really trust the translations of “scholars?” Khakilu & Deedee4him "have you inquired of the Lord" if what you believe and teach is correct? I have, as has Somboun. If you want to know the truth, ask God, your Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ if what you believe is true, and the Holy Ghost will manifest the truth of it unto you. Please don't accept your own interpretation and that of others, no matter who they are. Go to the source of all truth. God has given me the Grace to find the truth. I have given you the formula. Please apply it in your life.

For Somboun...The reason the Mormon church cannot accept Jesus as God is because they don't believe the Bible is the infallable word of God as do orthodox Christians. I urge you to read John 1 and Hebrews 1...John 1 says: In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Slip down to verse 14 which says: The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. WE have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of Grace and Truth. Jesus gave up his glory to become man and suffer and die for our sins AS the GOD MAN! This is God's plan not mine...if you as a mormon are really interested in knowing the truth then search for it...eternity is a long time to be separated from God...It seems to me that the hardest thing for a mormon is to dare think for themselves and search for the truth...the church hierarchy forbids reading anything they deem threatening to the truth...be brave! Check it out for yourself! Don't accept anyone else's version of the truth...if the LDS church is the only "true" church it should be able to withstand the utmost scruitiny! Go for it and God give you the grace to find the real truth!

pocos, lets try your logic, you say that god is a spirit, and that jesus is god. OK, when jesus was on the cross and he looked up into heaven and said, "oh, lord my god, why have thou forsaken me?" Was he talking to himself? When he resurected three days later and he was showing himself to mary, and he said to her "touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father" Was he going to visit himself? When he suffered for all of our sins in the garden, he prayed to the fater that this cup might pass by, was he again praying to himself? Looks like you are the one who is confused about what you believe. Post stuff that makes sense please.
