SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - The Utah Jazz and the Los Angeles Lakers are not the best of friends "on the court" and now it appears fans of the two teams are not the best of friends "off the court."
A Los Angeles Lakers fan attacked a Jazz fan with pepper spay. It was actually a pepper spray fogger, which delivers a stronger punch of pain. The attacked happened at 400 West 100 South near Energy Solutions Arena.
"Basketball obviously is a big deal especially here in Salt Lake. The Jazz and the Lakers," said Tammy Champo from Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City Police describe Wednesday night's confrontation as trash talk. It escalated into an invitation to fight and at that point security escorted the suspect out of the Arena.
"People need to be civil. Right now I think people are arguing with each other about a lot of things," said Champo.
Civility was probably the last thing on the suspect's mind. He stopped his car next to the victim's car and sprayed him in the face, according to Salt Lake City Police.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital. He'll make a full recovery. Call Salt Lake City Police are searching for the suspect.
