DRAPER, UTAH (AP) - Prison officials say a 26-year-old inmate is recovering in the hospital after being stabbed by his cellmate at the maximum-security facility in Draper.
Utah Department of Corrections spokesman Steve Gehrke says Wednesday authorities are investigating what prompted the altercation late Tuesday afternoon. He says the 27-year-old suspect is serving a sentence for second-degree aggravated assault. The victim is imprisoned for aggravated robbery.
Gehrke says authorities are still searching for a weapon.
The suspect remains in his cell but could be moved to a higher security area or lose privileges. He also faces additional charges.
The victim suffered multiple puncture wounds and was transported to a local hospital. The injuries to his back and arms are not considered life-threatening.
Officials have not released the names of those involved.
