On Saturday, March 23 at noon, Utah Tar Sands Resistance and allies will PROTEST at the Chevron refinery (at 2300 N,1100W). MORE INFORMATION HERE ---> https://www.facebook.com/events/507445342650939/ This action was planned as part of the cross-continental Week of Actions to Stop Tar Sands Profiteers. Chevron is refining toxic tar sands oil from Canada in SLC, and it plans to refine tar sands oils from the first tar sand strip mine in the United States planned in eastern Utah. We rise up in solidarity to show investors that tar sands is a toxic investment. This PROTEST takes on new urgency with Chevron’s third pipeline spill in Utah in less than three years which has closed Utah’s 2nd most popular state park. This leaky Chevron pipeline was installed in 1950 and has leaked thousand of gallons of diesel fuel into the sensitive aquatic environment of Willard Bay which comprises nearly 10,000 acres of fresh water located in the Great Salt Lake flood plain north and west of Ogden. Chevron officials would not say how many gallons had spilled. The leak was discovered in wetlands where millions of migrating birds will rest in the coming weeks. JOIN Utah Tar Sands Resistance and allies @ CHEVRON on Saturday March 23rd at noon. (Location - 2300 N, 1100W SLC). MORE INFORMATION HERE ---> https://www.facebook.com/events/507445342650939/ From Canada to Houston —and in Utah—tar sands mines and refineries poison air and water. The huge tar sands mines of Alberta, Canada are expanding, endangering all the people downstream, the refinery communities, and the workers . People downstream are already dying of rare cancers. Utah will suffer the same consequences if we don’t stop mining and refining of tar sands from happening here.
